About Axel
📌 Important Information • All of our dogs are currently in foster homes in Mexico 🇲🇽. They are listed as being in Sherwood, Oregon because that is where our rescue is officially based for adoption purposes. • To keep our dogs safe and reduce unnecessary stress, we only fly dogs to Oregon once we have an approved adopter. ✈️ After approval, we coordinate the flight directly to Portland (PDX), with your new family member typically arriving within 2–4 weeks. 💛 About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative) Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico’s streets. Our organization works at the source through rescue, spay/neuter programs, and adoption into loving Oregon homes. Since 2019: 🐶 460+ dogs adopted • ✂️ 3,500+ dogs spayed/neutered 👉 Interested in adopting? PLEASE FILL OUT APPLICATION AT www.bapbr.org ⚠️ We’re unable to respond to requests that come through Petfinder ************************** 🐾 Meet AXEL 🐾 • AGE: ~1.5 years old • WEIGHT: ~6 lbs • BREED(S): Chihuahua mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!) • GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food. • HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As a dog rescued off the street and currently living outdoors or in foster homes with tile surfaces, they'll need some time to be 100% housebroken. Most of our dogs adapt to a potty routine within 1-2 weeks with consistent training. Axel was trying to cross a street when a pack of large dogs spotted him. They chased him down, and he had nowhere to go—just a six-pound dog trying to outrun animals ten times his size. Fortunately, someone saw what was happening and scooped him up before the worst could happen. When he arrived at his foster home, Axel was severely underweight—his ribs visible, his body fragile. And he was terrified of being alone. He'd cry and cry, convinced that if you left, you'd never come back. "At first, he wouldn't stop crying," his foster says. "He just couldn't handle being by himself." But with time, food, and patience, Axel has transformed. He's gained weight and looks healthy now. And while he still doesn't love being alone, he's learned to tolerate it. He doesn't cry anymore when you leave. He just waits, trusting you'll return. What hasn't changed is how much Axel adores people. This is a velcro dog through and through. Wherever you go, he goes. Kitchen? He's there. Bathroom? Waiting outside the door. Working at your desk? He's at your feet. Sitting on the couch? He's climbing into your lap, burrowing under the blanket, pressing his little body against yours. He's a bit shy when he first meets someone new—he'll hang back, assess, make sure you're safe. But once he decides you're okay, he's all in. And with his people? He's completely devoted. Axel loves to cuddle. Loves warmth. If you're lying down, he'll burrow under the covers and curl up right against you. He's cold-natured, always seeking out the warmest spot—a sunny patch on the floor, a pile of blankets, your lap. "He just wants to be close," his foster explains. "He's happiest when he's with you." What Axel needs is someone who's ideally home often—someone who works from home, or is retired, or just has a lifestyle that allows for a constant companion. He'd thrive with another calm dog for company when his person is busy. He's not high-maintenance in terms of exercise or entertainment; he just wants love. After being chased by dogs much larger than him, after crying himself hoarse from fear of abandonment—Axel has learned that some people stay. Now he's looking for the person who'll prove that staying is permanent. Are you ready for a tiny shadow who'll follow you everywhere, who'll make every couch session a cuddle session, who'll remind you daily that being needed is one of life's greatest gifts? ************************* 📝 Ready to apply?
