About Vanilla
📌 Important Information • All dogs are currently in foster care in Mexico 🇲🇽. They're listed in Oregon for adoption purposes as that's where our rescue is based. • Dogs fly to Portland (PDX) once adoption is approved, arriving within 2–4 weeks. ✈️ This reduces stress for them and ensures safe travel. 💛 About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative) Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico’s streets. Our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, and adoption into loving homes. Since 2019: 🐶 500+ dogs adopted • ✂️ 3,500+ dogs spayed/neutered 👉 Interested in adopting? PLEASE FILL OUT APPLICATION AT www.bapbr.org ⚠️ We’re unable to respond to requests that come through Petfinder ************************** 🐾 Meet VANILLA 🐾 • AGE: ~5 months old • WEIGHT: ~11 lbs • BREED(S): Chihuahua - Italian Greyhound mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!) • GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, as long as they're taught to respect the dog’s belongings and boundaries. • HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training. She showed up crying outside the gate of our foster Erika's house two mornings in a row, a tiny, skinny and helpless puppy. The first day, Vainilla ate, drank, and then left. The second day, she was back, earlier than before. And this time, she didn't leave. She'd made her decision that this was her new family. What's remarkable about Vainilla is what she didn't bring with her: baggage. No fear, no trauma response, no wariness toward people--hence the name Erika gave her (she's "vanilla" in the best way possible). "She's genuinely innocent," says her foster Erika. "Everything makes her happy." For a puppy who'd clearly been fending for herself on the streets, that openness is something rare and special to see. She's smart in the way that makes you laugh — she figured out how to walk on a leash in a single day. She tears around with other dogs, plays with cats, charms every person and animal she meets, then collapses into a deep, satisfied sleep on her sofa before doing it all over again. Erika aptly describes her as a dog that is "always happy, always content". She's the kind of joyful presence that makes everything feel right in the world. It's a wonder how anyone could have abandoned such a special dog. Another thing she can't get enough of? Belly rubs (watch the video above!). She just casually rolls over and asks for one, and she's so adorable it's impossible to say no. The way that her tail wags uncontrollably fast when she hears your voice, you'd think you are the center of her universe. One thing worth knowing: Vainilla loves company and doesn't love being alone. She's a social creature through and through — happiest when there's someone around, whether that's a human, another dog, or both. A home where she won't spend long stretches by herself will bring out the very best in her. Are you ready for a dog who already picked you? ************************* 📝 Ready to apply?
