About Mavis Aka Cocoa
Mavis (aka Coco) is a beautiful 2-year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on November 25, 2025 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Main Street in Belpre Ohio in the vicinity of McHappy's Bake Shoppe. Mavis was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. Mavis was very pregnant when she entered our shelter, and we knew that she would soon be giving birth to several puppies based upon her size. Fortunately for Mavis, one of our wonderful foster mothers offered her the hospitality of a temporary home later in the day on November 25th so that Mavis would have a safe comfortable haven to give birth and to raise her babies. Mavis gave birth to ten healthy puppies on December 3rd 2025: Five little boys (Jake, Jax, Marley, Renegade, and Zeus). And five little girls (Bella, Boo Boo Bear, Elsa Minnie, and Pandora). Mavis was a wonderful momma who raised ten healthy, happy youngsters (with a little help from her foster mother). Mavis returned to our shelter on February 4th since her puppies were fully weaned, and the foster mother continues to care for her puppies. Mavis has a sleek black coat with a large white bib on her chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable face with dark brown expressive eyes, a black button nose, a chubby muzzle, and large floppy ears. This little sweetheart has a happy, affectionate outgoing personality. These photos of Mavis were taken late in the afternoon on February 21st when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard accompanied Mavis for outdoor glamour photos after her puppies posed for their first 'big boy, big girl' pictures. Mavis weighs 60 lbs and walks well on a leash. HSOV is currently accepting adoption applications for Mavis and her ten puppies .. The puppies were showcased in an adoption event at WeLovPets (Lafayette Plaza, Marietta Ohio) on Saturday, February 21, 2026 and a few were fostered-to-adopt that day. Please note that the puppies are still in their wonderful foster home. HSOV will make arrangements for a meet-and-greet with the puppies and their foster mother with an approved HSOV adoption application. We know that Mavis' ten puppies will be fostered/adopted quickly, but please remember that their beautiful mother who gave them life and nurtured/raised them to be happy, outgoing youngsters also deserves the best home ever. Mavis will be spayed before being officially adopted but she could be fostered while she is awaiting that procedure with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.
