2/19/26: Foster or Foster to Adopt Home Needed! We found out last night about a local family in need. Over the past few years, they have accumulated several dropped off dogs at their home. Unfortunately, they have been unable to afford proper vetting and have had a few litters of puppies, the most recent being over the past several months. Although they were able to place a litter born in October, two of those pups have been returned recently, and 8 additional puppies are also ready for homes in addition to the 5 other dogs in the home, leading to more stress for the family. When they reached out for help from one of our volunteers, we knew we couldn't say no. Everyone meet Cookie, a 2.5 year Maltese/Yorkie who just wants to be loved. At 22# he is a little larger then most Malteses or Yorkie's, but he is a super sweet boy with a lot of love to give and we are sure you will fall in love if you only give him a chance. After sharing his home with several other dogs the past few years, he wants nothing more them a little tlc of his own. We will helped the family with 3 other pups, lab mixes ~7 weeks old and 2- 4 month hound mix pups as well. In addition, we will be providing veterinary care and spaying the two momma dogs. Although placing puppies (kittens) can be easier then adults for most people, unless you break the cycle of unwanted litters, it isn't really helping. That's why we started our Spay the Momma program ~20years ago. If we take in a litter of puppies or kittens from an owner, we will pay to have the momma spayed at our vet in order to prevent additional unwanted litters and give the momma the best chance at a healthier life. The best part? Families get to keep their momma dogs/cats if they choose to. It's a win-win! If you're able to help by fostering or foster to adopting any other dog at this time, please submit an application and call your veterinarians office in the morning to give consent to release records to us. If a labby mix may be a better match, watch out in the next day or two for another intake announcement! Due to his size, activity level and age, foster to adopt requirements are: -Living within 80 miles of Adams, NY. -Having previous/current pets in annually at a local veterinary office and up to date on vaccines as well as spay/neutered. -Being able to bring him back to our vets office in Adams for additional care prior to adoption if needed. After adoption, we recommend taking him to your current vet to be established. -Playful dogs in the home should be ok, since he has been with other dogs previously -Homes with children over 8 years old should be ok due to his current size and activity level -Willing to have current family members come to a meet and greet to meet the pet and be sure an acceptable match. -Having time available to care for, socialize and start the training of a new pet. An adoption donation of $450 is being asked if you choose to adopt, but fostering is free. He had his initial vet check, is current on vaccines, dewormings and prescription flea and tick and heartworm medications and he will be neutered prior to adoption.
