River is a 5-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog who has a special place in our hearts. He sadly had to leave the only family he’s ever known due to unforeseen circumstances, but his transition has been smooth thanks to our dedicated team. River is a sizable dog, just under 70 lbs, with a beautiful merle coat. Though he hasn’t had professional training, he’s mastered basic obedience like sit, down, and shake, showing off the fantastic foundation laid by his previous family. Potty trained and crate trained, he walks nicely on a gentle leader leash, making him a pleasure to take out. River enjoys playful moments with toys or snuggling on the couch, but he needs a home without children, as he can be wary of them. While he gets along well with other dogs, especially non-dominant ones, he does prefer to eat alone due to resource guarding. A fenced yard would be great, but it’s not mandatory; he just wouldn’t be happy in an apartment setting. This affectionate dog needs an active family that can provide him with attention and structure. River reflects the joy of companionship and is ready to brighten someone's life as their loyal friend.
