About Butters
Click apply to start the adoption process. Meet Butters! Estimated to have been born in September 2022 and weighing around 40 pounds, Butters is an intelligent and kind medium-sized terrier/basset hound mix with an energetic outlook on life. He can be a bit shy at first, but once comfortable, he bonds wholeheartedly and loves to play with his dog friends or spend quality time with his people. Butters is known for his enthusiasm, playful nature, and love of collecting objects, which means his future home should be prepared to set clear boundaries and continue his training. While he’s made great progress and no longer jumps up or grabs hands for attention in his foster home, consistency in training will help him continue to thrive. Because of his previous jumping habits and his sturdy build, a home with teens or adults only is required. Butters has unique front legs—one of which is twisted from his basset/dachshund heritage—but this doesn’t slow him down when he’s running or playing, though it may require some consideration for high-impact activities. His ideal home will have a secure, visible fenced yard (minimum 4 ft), and a sturdy, safe crate—no wire or soft crates allowed. He should not be in a home with cats, as he’s not cat-friendly. Apartments are not suitable, but some condos or homes with private, fenced yards may be considered. Butters is currently in foster care in Poulsbo, WA, and meet-and-greets will take place there. Adopters must be local to Western Washington or possibly Northern Oregon, and must attend the meet in person if approved. All adoption policies and requirements are thoroughly reviewed to ensure the best fit for both Butters and his new family, so your thoughtful application is appreciated. Let’s help Butters find his perfect forever home! Make their next chapter their best one yet.

Questions about Butters
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Terrier/basset hound mixes typically do well in homes that offer both indoor comfort and outdoor access, such as a house with a securely fenced yard. They appreciate having space to play and roam but also enjoy being integrated into family activities indoors.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
A moderate outdoor space is ideal for a terrier/basset hound mix. They benefit from a fenced yard where they can explore and exercise safely, though they should not be left unsupervised for extended periods.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Terrier/basset hound mixes are generally friendly and affectionate, making them good companions for families with older, dog-savvy children. Due to their energetic and sometimes strong-willed nature, supervision around younger children is recommended.
