Pumpkin
AvailablePumpkin is a nine-year-old small female Shih Tzu with a long black coat, currently in Williamsburg, VA. She is spayed and vaccinated, and although not fully house trained, she is crate trained and accustomed to a special, chicken-free diet due to chronic skin and ear issues. Pumpkin does well with calm dogs and cats but will require ongoing care and a steady routine in her new home. Her charming personality and distinct underbite make her stand out as a loving senior companion.
About Pumpkin
Pumpkin and her sister Ginger are a bonded pair of senior Shih Tzus looking for a forever home together. Pumpkin is black, nine years old, and weighs around 10 lbs. Both girls have chronic skin and ear conditions, which have improved with veterinary and foster care, but they’ll need ongoing maintenance: weekly (sometimes twice-weekly) medicated baths, topical sprays, occasional ear cleaning, and a consistent grooming routine. Diet is important for these two—think fish-based kibble and fresh veggies, no chicken. Neither needs a prescription diet, but both do best with supplements and a little extra attention at mealtime. Both are affectionate, and Pumpkin has a little more sass. They love naps, laps, slow strolls, sunbathing, gentle brushing, and lounging on soft beds. They’re mostly housebroken, crate-trained, and do well in the car. They get along with calm dogs and don’t mind cats, but young kids or energetic dogs aren’t a good match. These two are built for a cozy, low-traffic home with a secure small yard (they prefer to potty off-leash) and minimal stairs. The girls both have underbites and love sticking their tongues out for extra charm. If you want a couple of mellow, loving companions, Pumpkin and Ginger could be your perfect match. Questions about Pumpkin
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Pumpkin, as a small Shih Tzu, thrives in a quiet, patient home where routines are consistent, and she can relax indoors on soft beds. They do best in living spaces with minimal stairs and low household activity.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Shih Tzus like Pumpkin require only a small, secure yard for short strolls and potty breaks, preferring to do their business off-leash. Long walks or wide open spaces aren’t necessary.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
While Shih Tzus can be gentle with children, Pumpkin’s age and special needs make her better suited to homes without small kids or energetic households.
