About Valentine

Valentine is a shy, sweet-natured Shetland Sheepdog with a long, blue merle coat who has survived years of neglect in a puppy mill. At roughly 5–7 years old, she spent her entire life in a cramped concrete pen—when first rescued, she paced in circles and froze with fear at human presence, reduced by years of isolation to mere survival instincts. In her foster home, she's slowly finding freedom: a confident dog companion helps her gain courage, and she's transitioned to crate trained, housebroken, and now even enjoys playtime with other dogs. Valentine gets along well with both males and females, politely ignores cats, and handles baths and vet visits calmly. She is extremely food motivated and does an enthusiastic dance when dinner arrives, though she hasn’t learned yet how to take treats gently—expect a firm grab rather than a dainty nibble. The best home for Valentine is mature, quiet, and patient without young kids, as loud excitement would be overwhelming. She’s gentle and non-aggressive but still timid and submissive, needing someone often around who’s committed to her ongoing progress and emotional growth. Her coat, now trimmed and professionally cleaned, is still quite full and will need regular upkeep. Out-of-state adopters are welcome but must arrange their own transport. Valentine is currently in Austin, TX. Make her next chapter her best one yet.
