Lucas is a striking black and white Saluki mix with a story that sets him apart. Originally part of a feral pack in the deserts of Qatar, Lucas brings some unique quirks and needs. He's not instantly everyone's best friend; he takes his time to trust, but once he does, his affection shines and he enjoys a good snuggle. He isn't comfortable around strangers and isn't interested in mingling with every new dog, but he does have his own social circle of dog friends at his foster home (preferring female companions). Lucas has a real prey drive, so he shouldn't be around small animals unsupervised. He's never going to be reliable off leash—he needs a secure, fenced yard to safely stretch out and race around, ideally with sticks to chase but not necessarily bring back. Harsh training methods or loud voices won’t work with Lucas. Gentle, consistent handling helps him relax and learn. He’s crate trained, house trained, and walks beautifully on leash in quieter neighborhoods. Noisy, crowded environments make him uneasy, but he’s made impressive progress since arriving and loves rides in the car and curling up on the couch.
