About Sam
Sam was found by a good Samaritan on the side of the road. He was so malnourished he couldn't walk or even stand up. He was rushed to the vet with the expectation of a humane euthanasia to stop his suffering, but Sam wasn't ready to go yet! With some medication and lots of TLC, Sam is bouncing back and really turning on the charm! He got to spend about a month with a lovely foster family who rehabilitated him, now he is living at ARC and couldn't be happier with all the attention! This sweet boy loves people and affection. Sam is marked as "special needs" because he is positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This does NOT impact his adoptability, as you can see he is handsome and loving! FIV is not transmitted to humans or other animals, it only affects cats. It is also, not easily transmitted to other cats, usually through a very deep bite, mating or from mom to her babies. Since, Sam is neutered and as long as he isn't fighting with other cats, he can live with other kitties that are FIV negative. He can also be an only-kitty or live with other FIV+ cats. There is a lot of information on the internet about FIV, but not all of it is accurate or up to date. To learn more, we recommend starting with the Best Friends Animal Society FIV Fact Sheet: https://bestfriends.org/pet-care-resources/fiv-cats-feline-immunodeficiency-virus-faqs Adoption fees are $80 each, includes spay/neuter, FIV/FeLV testing, core vaccines, deworming, flea prevention and microchip. If Sam is the right kitty for you, please contact the Animal Refuge Center at 270-877-6064 or animal_refugectr@hotmail.com and we can answer any questions you have about him or FIV. Or, fill out an adoption application on our website animalrefugecenter.org.
