Husky is a label for northern sled-dog types rather than a single breed. In shelters it usually means a Siberian Husky or a Siberian mix, though Alaskan huskies and Malamute crosses carry the name too. Most weigh 35 to 70 pounds and share erect ears, a thick double coat, a brush tail and sometimes blue or mismatched eyes.
Many are friendly and playful with people, but they're also independent, vocal and quick to chase small animals or slip out of a yard. They need hard daily exercise and shed heavily. Williamsport's cold months suit that coat, while its warmer stretches ask for more care. Dogs vary, and a mix can look and act quite different from a classic Siberian.
