A Chinchilla cat is usually a Persian with a silver coat: each long white hair is tipped with black, so the fur shimmers like frost. The look goes back to an English cat named Silver Lambkin, born in 1882. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color rather than a separate breed. Green or blue-green eyes rimmed in dark pigment complete the picture, and golden Chinchillas exist too.
Many Chinchillas share the Persian's gentle, quiet nature and settle best in peaceful, predictable homes. The coat takes real upkeep, with daily combing, regular baths and face cleaning. In a warm, humid place like Miami, a thick coat mats easily, so a cool indoor life suits them. Like all cats, each one varies, so the breed is a starting point, not a promise.
