About Hazel

Meet Hazel! This spirited five-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever is currently in Amherst, MA. Her chocolate brown coat and vibrant personality make her an unforgettable companion. Weighing 69 pounds, she’s a lovable whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm, ready to bring laughter and adventure into an active family’s life. Hazel approaches everything with full speed, especially when greeting her favorite people. Her warm welcome has earned her the nickname "fur missile," and she sometimes forgets just how large she is. She adores running, fetching balls, and playing with her favorite squeaky toy. Food is definitely her love language! This clever girl knows commands like sit, shake, and down. She’s house-trained, crate-trained, and comfortable being alone for short periods. Hazel responds well to training with food rewards, making it a great opportunity to strengthen your bond together. She’ll need some guidance, especially with jumping and door manners. Hazel enjoys playing with other dogs, especially those that can match her enthusiasm. While she’s affectionate with children, her exuberance might overwhelm smaller kids, so families with older children would be a better fit. Although Hazel’s compatibility with cats is unknown, her strong instinct to chase wildlife means she requires a securely fenced yard and attentive supervision. Indoors, she’s a devoted companion who loves snuggling close on the couch. Her dramatic sighs and amusing noises fill the home with joy. Although she had an isolated incident in 2024 during a dog fight where she accidentally bit her caregiver, Hazel has shown no aggression toward people since. She enjoys positive interactions with other dogs and will thrive with thoughtful introductions and continued positive reinforcement training. Spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated, Hazel is looking for an active and patient family dedicated to daily exercise and companionship. She thrives on being close to her people rather than spending long periods outside. Ready for a chocolate-colored whirlwind of affection and fun? Your new best friend is just one click away.
