Pet Location: Wayside Waifs Main Campus My Friends at Wayside say: - I am a graduate of Peace Academy. In this program, I learned advanced skills to manage my energy. I also graduated from Waifs with Wisdom, where I learned different commands. I have also graduated from our Trick Dog class, where I learned lots of fun tricks, and how to manage my energy when I see exciting things on leash. My adoption comes with a free 30-minute private training session. - I love to be around people and lean in for pets! - I was housebroken and crate trained in my foster home. - During my time at Wayside, I've enjoyed being around other dogs. - I successfully lived with cats in my foster home. - I already know lots of basic commands! - I’m a smart and sweet boy who wants all the cuddles! - I am eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10 day in-home trial period. Please visit our website for additional information. My home needs are: - I must go to a home that already has another active and playful dog. - A fenced yard is a must for me. I need a secure area to run around and release my energy. - I need a home with kids 6 years old and older who will enjoy my enthusiasm for life! - If you have kids in the home between 6 and 9 years old, I will need to meet them to make sure they enjoy my enthusiasm for life. - Wayside recommends an active home for me. Hi there, I’m Cheddar! I’m a big teddy bear and sweetheart of a dog, looking for a home where I will be loved and wanted, where I feel like I belong, where I can make you smile and laugh at my silly antics. I’m smart, happy, goofy, and loads of fun. If you’re looking for a friend who wants to be engaged, involved, and right in the middle of all the fun of everyday life, please consider me! I’m quite a character, ready to make your life more interesting and entertaining in so many ways. I hope you’ll decide to give me a chance. I’m a handsome, 3-year-old, 56-pound Pit Bull Terrier mix, with the cutest, expressive face and ears, a charming smile, and a spunky, exuberant, lovely personality. I’m already housebroken, and I will pace by the door when I need to go outside. Please stay patient with me, though, especially as I get acclimated to my new home and routine, as an adjustment period is normal. I also learned about crate training during my time in foster, and I did well with that, although I’m so well behaved in the house that crating isn’t really necessary for me. I came to Wayside as a stray. It was lonely out there on my own, but the big shelter can be stressful for an active and energetic fella like me. I was so happy to get a break by spending over a month in a loving foster home. It was incredible! I’m back at Wayside now, where it will be easy for you to find me. I’m ready to go home with you, so I hope you come soon. I made so much progress during my time in foster. While I’m an energetic and active dog, Foster Mom found that I was also happy and able to contentedly relax and chill, too. I roamed free in the house without causing any trouble, trustworthy even when no one was home. Foster Mom would give me a chew toy or other enrichment to help keep me occupied while she was gone. I’d rather have gone along with her on adventures, of course, but I learned my routine. When she was home, I liked to follow her around the house, sometimes forgetting my own strength as I bulldozed around in a happy-go-lucky, enthusiastic way. At night, I got to sleep in the bed, a luxury I treasured. I was peaceful at night with no accidents or mischief. When I’d get the zoomies in the morning or at night, Foster Mom was happy to spend time playing or walking with me to wear me out. I liked that. I love going for car rides and walks and whatever other adventures are presented to me. I just want to be part of whatever it is you like to do. While I enjoy the attention you give me, and I love knowing that you’re nearby, I’m not a clingy or needy dog. I want so much to be the best dog that I can possibly be! I’m one smart cookie who loves to learn and train, so I hope you’ll teach me throughout my life. I learned so much in classes that I took at Wayside, so I already have plenty of tools and skills to bring to my new home. I learn and pick up on new things quickly. Please stay patient and calm with me, using positive reinforcement training to help me learn what’s expected of me. I love to make you happy. I like to stay busy, too, and I need structure and routine. Once I have that, I am the nicest dog to share your life with. I truly enjoy hanging out and playing with my dog friends! I lived with a husky in my foster home, and we got along well. We also had puppies visit, and I was gentle with them, once we were properly introduced. In a previous foster home, I lived with 4 other dogs, each with their own distinct personalities, and I did excellent with every single one. I take corrections well, I am happy to take breaks when needed, and I can match my playstyle to others. I will need a home with another playful, active dog as an outlet for my energy. I have also done well living with cats and kittens in my foster home. I am respectful of them, even when they let me know that they’re not in the mood for me, by hissing or swatting at me. I will need to have a fenced yard in my new home, where I can run and play and goof off to my heart’s content. Daily walks are another great way to spend my time and to burn energy. I have been working hard on my leash skills and doing great. I still pull at times, especially when I’m curious about something I see, but a harness helps me stay focused. I’m such a great dog who will make someone very happy. I need you to be patient and committed to me, to teach me boundaries and structure, and to show me love and attention every day. I will need a home with kids over the age of 6, and if you have kids under the age of 10, I will need to meet them before we go home together, to make sure that we’re a good match. I want to make sure that the whole family is comfortable with my exuberance, strength, and zest for life. I can’t wait to be part of a family, to feel like I finally belong, to have a home of my very own. I’ve waited my whole life for you. I dream about you every night. I know that you’re out there, and I hope that maybe you need me just as much as I need you. I’m ready to be your loyal dog. Trust me, I will be so good at that! Love, Cheddar
