Gooseberry is a medium, three-year-old, spayed female cat (Domestic Short Hair mix) currently located in Cumberland, ME. She is house trained and her vaccinations are up to date, making her a well-prepared companion. Though still cautious around people, Gooseberry adores spending time with her family, showing the potential for lots of love in the right environment.

About Gooseberry

Gooseberry arrived at HART alongside her sister Firethorn, having been rescued from an abandoned home in May 2026. Initially very anxious and undersocialized, she has come a long way with the help of our Shy Angels Socialization Team. While she remains cautious around people and isn't ready for cuddles just yet, her growth has been remarkable. She shares a close bond with a handsome boy named Yam, who has played a significant role in her journey toward trusting humans. Often, you’ll see all three—Gooseberry, Firethorn, and Yam—together, relishing the warmth of the sun and each other's company. Gooseberry particularly relies on Yam for reassurance and feels safe in his presence. While she still needs to learn to trust human touch, Gooseberry shows us daily that she is capable of more. She enjoys playing with toys and will even accept treats from your hand. Gooseberry is looking for a calm, dog-free home without children, though respectful visiting kids are welcome. Notably, she is bonded with Firethorn and Yam, and they must be adopted together. A kind home that respects Gooseberry’s pace will help her flourish further.
