Charlie was rescued from a heartbreaking neglect situation where he and multiple dogs lived outside in cramped cages. They faced severe food shortages and lived with fleas and ticks, drinking from mud puddles. A game warden intervened, leading to their rescue. You can still see the remnants of Charlie’s past—his ears bear scars and patches of missing fur from fly bites. But despite this, he has retained a loving spirit and adores every person he meets. Friendly and affectionate, he craves the attention he missed out on during his difficult past. Among the dogs in his group, Charlie has struggled the most with other dogs, likely due to his experiences of competition for resources. He needs a calm environment and would thrive as the only dog in his new home, ideally with an experienced adopter ready to take things slowly. Currently, Charlie is heartworm positive and undergoing treatment. This process takes about 3-4 months, but he can find his forever home sooner. His adopter will just need to bring him back for his remaining treatments. Weighing around 40.6 pounds, Charlie is a medium-sized dog. Although we're uncertain of his exact breed, we suspect he may be a Mountain Cur mix based on his rescue's origins. Charlie may carry scars from his previous life, but they don't define him.
