Hi, I'm Barley, a 63-pound Labrador Retriever mix, and I'm a very sweet girl who may need a little time to show you just how special I am. The shelter environment can be pretty overwhelming for me, and I seem to experience quite a bit of stress and anxiety here, which can make it difficult for my true personality to shine right away. I am pretty independent and preferer spending my time outside exploring and taking in everything around me right now. Once I felt a little more comfortable, I will paw at you to ask for attention and even lay down right in front of you so I could enjoy some pets. I know my name, although I'll admit I sometimes have selective hearing and will come when called when I'm in the mood! I especially enjoyed being outside, exploring my surroundings, and watching the other dogs go about their business. I'm an active girl who would love a family that can keep both my body and my mind busy. Adventures, walks, exploring, enrichment, and plenty of opportunities to experience new things would be wonderful for me. Even though I have a little independent streak, I am an incredibly sweet and loving girl, and I really think I could make a wonderful family companion. I'm also very well mannered, and I have so much potential to blossom once I'm in a calm, comfortable environment where I can relax and truly be myself. I'm looking for a patient and understanding family who won't expect me to become their best friend overnight, but instead will give me the time and encouragement I need to build confidence and settle in. I may need a little extra patience at first, but underneath all that shelter stress is a loving girl who is just waiting for the right people to help her personality shine.
