Butters has faced challenges most dogs will never know. Rescued as a stray alongside her sister, she came to the shelter terrified and completely lost. With the odds stacked against her, time was running out before Libby and Mace's Place stepped in to change her future. Since finding her way into foster care, Butters has made remarkable strides. She now enjoys playing with her foster sibling, accepts gentle affection from her foster mom, and has taken to snoozing on the couch as her favorite pastime. Despite her progress, she is still quite fearful of people, particularly when they are moving. Approaching her too quickly can send her scurrying away. Trust is something she builds gradually, requiring a patient and understanding adopter. While she hasn’t yet learned to walk on a leash or go outside for potty breaks, she currently uses washable pee pads indoors. Butters thrives in a secure environment, ideally a home with a 6-foot privacy fence where she can build her confidence. She is surprisingly athletic and has shown the ability to jump over baby gates, which means a sturdy containment setup is essential. Once she feels safe, Butters gets along well with other dogs. She integrates smoothly with both male and female companions with slow introductions. A confident resident dog could be beneficial for her journey. For those fortunate enough to earn her trust, Butters reveals her gentle and affectionate nature. She enjoys cozy naps and prefers to be near the people who make her feel safe.
