About Rey
Meet Rey! A thoughtful almost five-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix living in Amherst, MA. Rey has a strong affinity for bacon-scented fetch balls, cozy naps, and rewarding training games. With her striking black and fawn coat, along with expressive eyes that light up for treats, she's both clever and loyal. House-trained and crate-trained, Rey knows commands like sit, stay, heel, touch, and can even do a trick where she balances a treat on her nose. She loves walks around the neighborhood and engaging with treat-dispensing puzzle toys. A steady routine makes her happiest. Rey takes daily fluoxetine to help with her anxiety. While she has made impressive strides in her training, she remains cautious around unfamiliar people and dogs. It's important to mention that Rey has a bite history linked to feeling startled or overwhelmed. Therefore, she is not suited for homes with children or other pets. She thrives best in a calm, structured environment with an experienced owner who understands anxious or reactive dogs. Her caregivers utilize leash management, positive reinforcement, and distance-based games to help her feel secure. Despite her challenges, Rey is deeply connected to her people and responsive to training. She’s not high-energy but is engaged and eager to learn when motivated by trust and food. A month of behavioral guidance from a consultant is included to help Rey adjust. Could your steady, pet-free home be the perfect place for her? If you're interested in providing Rey with a loving home, please email adopt@joyfulpets.com for more information. Let’s make it official, apply to adopt!
