About Katy

Katy came into the rescue shy and overwhelmed after being found as a stray, but it hasn't taken her long to show her true personality in foster care. At just 14 pounds, this small Chihuahua mix is all heart. It takes Katy a little while to warm up to new people—she barks and keeps her space at first—but with patience and kindness, she quickly turns into a devoted companion who wants to be by your side, whether you're relaxing or out in the yard. Katy thrives in the company of dog-savvy canines and currently lives with a pack ranging from young adults to seniors, often jumping into play or curling up with her housemates. Katy’s energy level is moderate. She enjoys structured play throughout the day, puzzle toys, and learning new tricks—she’s already mastering "sit" and loves exploring new ways to use her eager mind. She’s fully house trained and crate trained, settling quietly at night and when left alone for a few hours. Katy would do well in a home with patient adopters, a fenced yard, and ideally another friendly dog to help her build confidence. She has not been tested with cats. Katy may be happiest with older, dog-savvy children who understand her need for a slow introduction and respect her space. Adopters must live within an hour of Cary, NC, as part of the rescue's adoption guidelines. Katy will reward a patient family with endless loyalty, playful antics, and deep affection. This little dog is ready for someone to help her shine. Click apply and let the tail-wagging begin!
