About Mateo

Mateo, lovingly nicknamed "Munkee," is a male Pekingese puppy with a bright red, chestnut, and orange coat. Born to purebred Pekingese parents, Mateo’s compact size is expected to stay under 12 pounds, just like his mom and dad. He makes delightful chortle noises, and his need to be held is constant—this is a pup whose main agenda is soaking up affection. Mateo isn’t fully house trained yet, but he does reliably use a puppy pad. His early days in rescue involved a thorough grooming (making his coat temporarily shorter than the classic Pekingese style) after some mats and tangles. He came in battling fleas and a little hair loss on his head, but his fur is already growing back, and he’s kept flea-free on regular Simparica. Pekingese require lifelong professional grooming to keep their thick, medium coats healthy—this will need to be a regular part of his care. Mateo gets along well with both other dogs and with children, making him a good fit for families. Vaccinations (including parvo and distemper) are up to date, and his medical folder will be ready for his adopter. Mateo is located in Texarkana, TX, but can be adopted to multiple pickup locations by transport. Ready for a home where love is never in short supply, Mateo could be the perfect sidekick for anyone willing to meet his needs. Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started.
