About Phoenix
Phoenix is striking, with the classic good looks of a Great Pyrenees, and has lived through more than most dogs ever will. He’s escaped euthanasia not once, but twice, due to circumstances outside his control. First, his original family sent him to an intensive boot camp hoping to help with some behavioral challenges, but instead, Phoenix returned home even more fearful than before. When his struggles persisted, he was bounced to another energetic family, but the setting—busy with kids and another dog—threw him even more off balance. Now in Montana, Phoenix has settled into a quieter environment with a dedicated foster and the support of behaviorists. He’s shown he can be a happy and loving companion in the right scenario. Phoenix truly needs consistency and routine. He’s not comfortable around children and is shy with men, so the ideal match is a middle-aged woman who lives alone or with older teens, in a calm household that doesn’t get much foot traffic. A fully fenced yard is non-negotiable (6 feet high and see-through works best) as it lets him feel safe and observe without pressure. He does enjoy the company of some other dogs—especially females—when slow introductions are given across a barrier, but he hasn’t been tested with cats. After all he’s been through, Phoenix deserves a second chance with someone patient and committed to seeing him thrive at his own pace. They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
