Now she’s finally learning what it means to be safe 🤍 During the brutal Texas freeze of 2026, Winter was found wandering the streets of South Houston while heavily pregnant. After a week of careful effort, she was safely trapped and brought into rescue by her foster family. Shortly afterward, she gave birth to four healthy puppies, all of whom have since found wonderful forever homes. Now Winter is waiting for her own happy ending. Because she spent nearly her entire life surviving outdoors, Winter is understandably nervous around people and unfamiliar situations. She isn’t a dog who immediately seeks out affection, but she has such a gentle and loving spirit beneath her fear. Every morning she greets her foster mom with excited tail wags and playful bouncing, happily coming in from the yard when called. Winter is incredibly well behaved in the home. She loves relaxing on the couch, laying in sunny spots, and quietly enjoying the safety she never had before. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and ignores cats completely. While she currently prefers space over physical affection, her foster has seen signs that Winter may eventually become much more cuddly with patience and trust. During her heartworm treatment, while sedated and vulnerable, she repeatedly crawled into her foster mom’s lap seeking comfort — a heartbreaking reminder that she truly wants connection but simply doesn’t fully know how yet. Winter would thrive in a calm, patient home with adults or older children who understand boundaries and are willing to let her move at her own pace. A secure backyard is required, as she can be fearful and may run in unfamiliar environments. Winter doesn’t need perfection.
