About Charles

Lanky Little Lovebug Charles looks like somebody stretched a five-pound stuffed animal into the shape of a real dog and accidentally gave it the emotional depth of a divorced park ranger. This lanky little Terrier mix was born January 23rd and has somehow become both the tallest and the clingiest member of Macie’s Babies, which is a dangerously lovable combination. While the rest of the puppies are outside conducting full-contact backyard nonsense and launching themselves through the grass like tiny stuntmen, Charles has dedicated himself to a different lifestyle entirely: being held like a baby at all times possible. You pick this puppy up and he just melts. Not halfway either. Fully. Like warm butter on a dinner roll. The other puppies will usually come check in for affection during playtime and then head right back out to continue their important puppy activities. Charles? That little man settles into your arms like he finally made it home from a long career working offshore oil rigs. He will stay there peacefully for as long as you’ll let him, perfectly content just being close to you. And people fall for him immediately. Charles was fluffier than the rest of the litter from the very beginning, and now with his longer legs and scruffy little coat, he looks like a tiny dog somebody sketched from memory after seeing a terrier once in 1997. We suspect he may actually be the son of another dog we rescued off the same property named Tuffy because the resemblance is wild. Same soft affectionate personality. Same sweet face. Same “I would like to become emotionally codependent with my family immediately” energy. Tuffy is gray and white. Charles showed up looking like a toasted cinnamon Pop-Tart with legs. This puppy is special. He’s playful, social, deeply affectionate, and already has that rare quality where he feels naturally connected to people. Outside, he loves playing with the other dogs, exploring the yard, wrestling with his siblings, and participating in whatever important tiny puppy business is happening that day. But inside? He settles beautifully and seems happiest just being near his people. We would especially love to see Charles go into a home with another playful pup because he absolutely loves other dogs and naturally gravitates toward companionship. He has been beautifully socialized with dogs of all sizes, exposed to children, and approaches the world with this soft trusting sweetness that makes it almost impossible not to get attached to him. Their mama Macie is only around 15 lbs, so we do not expect these babies to get very big, but Charles already feels like one of those once-in-a-blue-moon dogs people talk about for years. He feels like porch naps, warm laundry, little feet following you room to room, and looking down one day realizing your entire household revolves around a five-pound scruffy creature named Charles. We have transports departing each week! +++++++ The Truth About Rescue: Every rescue pup is a work in progress — and that’s the beauty of it. None of them come wrapped in a bow, ready-made or mistake-free. They come with stories, quirks, and hearts that have seen a lot but still choose to trust again. Adoption isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence. Showing up for them, every day, until they know they’re finally home. That’s when you’ll see them bloom — soft and steady — into the very best version of themselves. And somewhere along the way, you’ll realize they were never the only one being rescued. +++++++ What Is a Benefactor Dog or Puppy, and Why Is the Adoption Fee Higher? Benefactor dogs and puppies are typically purebreds or high-demand rescues who tend to find homes quickly—even with a higher adoption fee. These dogs play a special role in our mission. Their increased fees help cover the costs for dogs who need much more time, care, and resources before they’re ready for adoption. Some dogs spend months—even over a year—in our care, requiring expensive surgeries, heartworm treatment, behavioral training, or ongoing medical support. By adopting a Benefactor dog, you're not only giving them a loving home—you’re also helping to fund the second chance of another dog still waiting for theirs. It’s a meaningful way to make a difference beyond just one life. +++++++ Once we have received your application, we will review and reach out to set-up an interview with one of our volunteers! If you have additional questions, please email us at SaintMuttsInquiries@gmail.com. Note: As with all of our rescues, we recommend homes with children 10 years and over to ensure the best fit for both the pets and families involved.
