A Sato is a Puerto Rican street dog, and Atabey’s story is one that is both heartbreaking and unforgettable. Atabey and her son were abandoned on the side of a road in Puerto Rico. But instead of leaving, they stayed there for weeks waiting for their owner to come back for them. Day after day, they waited faithfully by the roadside, not understanding they had been left behind. Her name, Atabey, comes from Taíno culture and represents a mother goddess connected to protection, nurturing, and the earth. It is a fitting name for such a gentle and loving dog. Despite everything she has been through, Atabey remains incredibly affectionate and kind. She does well with dogs and kids and has a calm, loving personality that makes people fall in love with her quickly. She is crate, leash, and potty trained and has adjusted beautifully to life in a home. Atabey would do best in a home without cats, but otherwise she is ready to be someone’s loyal best friend.
