Avacado
AvailableAvacado is a small, adult female Chihuahua/Dachshund mix with a short brown and beige coat. She’s about 8 years and 3 months old and resides in Yorktown, VA. Spayed and current on vaccines, Avacado is not yet house-trained due to her tough background but is making steady progress. She does not have special needs, but her adopters should be patient and understanding. Her sweet personality and resilience make her stand out. Born February 6, she’s an Aquarius—a sign known for its independent spirit.
About Avacado
Meet Avacado! She’s a one-eyed older lady who’s been through more than most dogs ever will. Avacado survived a hoarding situation in filthy, freezing conditions with no heat or electricity. At roughly 8–10 years old, she’s a Chihuahua mix with plenty of gentle energy left—especially after settling in. She’s spayed, up to date on vaccines, has had a major dental (losing 18 teeth didn’t slow her down), and is microchipped. Avacado starts off shy and reserved, often hiding until she feels safe, but lately she’s been seeking out cuddles on the couch and showing her playful side. Trust takes time, and she’ll need an adopter who truly understands trauma recovery in dogs; Avacado’s progress will be slow but rewarding. She adores being swaddled in a blanket and has never once shown aggression, even when frightened. Avacado gets along with other dogs—big and small—once she opens up. She’s not fostered with cats but would likely be fine. She’s tolerant with gentle children, letting them pick her up or hold her, but needs respectful handling at all times. She’s nearly crate-trained and does well in cars and at the vet, but is not yet house-trained due to her past. She’s getting better on the leash and enjoys walks, but loud noises and new things can still spook her. Avacado sometimes prefers eating alone, a habit from fighting for food, yet she’s gentle and manageable around people and treats. Her ideal home is patient, quiet, and committed—absolutely no adopters expecting perfection immediately, as she’s already been returned for not settling in instantly. Only experienced, thoughtful adopters within 2 hours of Hampton, VA will be considered. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
