About Grapefruit
Grapefruit is a small Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who has survived more than most, coming from a hoarding situation where basic comfort and stability were foreign. She’s slowly adjusting to life indoors, discovering trust after years of neglect, and making progress in her foster home every week. About four years old and around 12 pounds, Grapefruit is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She gravitates to women and approaches men cautiously, needing patient adopters willing to let her settle in at her own pace. She’s a textbook Velcro dog, happiest stuck by your side, and not shy about letting you know when she misses you. Grapefruit gets along with respectful dogs and may do fine with calm children, but she’s not used to loud environments or sudden changes. She’s working through her fear of new things—especially noises, the TV, and unfamiliar experiences. Walks go best with a secure harness, and she prefers quiet times outdoors. Crate training is coming along, though she still protests at first. House training is gradual; patience is key as she builds confidence going outside. Grapefruit prefers to eat away from other dogs and takes treats gently from people. Anyone interested should understand that this dog needs time and consistent encouragement—her history can’t be erased overnight. She’ll blossom in a calm, experienced home within an hour’s drive of Hampton, VA, where she can continue healing and forming strong bonds. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
