About Pepper
Pepper is a shy, three-year-old terrier and schnauzer mix who came to Colorado from Texas to look for her forever home. Weighing in around 28 pounds, she’s bigger than a Miniature Schnauzer but smaller than a typical Standard. Her black and brown fur and medium-length coat give her a distinct look. Pepper is slow to warm up but bonds deeply with a consistent, gentle person—she seeks out affection from her foster mom and likes to explore the backyard sniffing around for wildlife. Her background is mostly a mystery, but shelter notes suggest she might have spent time in a busy business setting with a lot of people coming and going. She can be timid around new people, especially men, but she does well living with another dog and a couple in foster care. Pepper is currently taking anti-anxiety medication to help her adjust, and she is learning basic commands like "sit" and "come." She is house trained, does best on a consistent potty schedule, and likes company outside. She is afraid of grooming clippers, so her mats have only been trimmed with scissors. Pepper needs an adopter who is patient and experienced with shy or anxious dogs—ideally someone home most of the time, like a retired person or work-from-home owner. Another calm, confident dog in the household would help her thrive. She is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on prevention medication.
