Dawson
AvailableDawson is a neutered young male, a medium-sized Terrier/Hound mix with a short coat, currently living in Broomfield, CO. He is house trained, up to date on vaccinations, and has some special needs due to a leg injury that has healed in its own way. Dawson has learned to adapt well and gets along with other dogs.
About Dawson
Dawson grew up fending for himself on the streets of Texas, figuring out survival as a puppy with little human contact. Life threw him a tough break—a car accident shattered his femur and, without help, the bone healed on its own terms. The leg looks odd but doesn’t slow him down; he can still walk, run, and play. Dawson’s past left him feral and deeply wary of people. He’s made slow but real progress in foster care—he can now wear a purple collar calmly, and the leash doesn't send him panicking to the back of his kennel like it used to. He’s still not ready for your typical home, but someone with solid experience working with fearful, anxious dogs could help him continue his journey. Dawson does well around other dogs, but will need patience and commitment from anyone interested in helping him build trust. Every small gain matters for a dog like this. Questions about Dawson
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Dawson, being a Terrier/Hound mix, generally thrives in a moderate household with access to both indoor comforts and a safe outdoor yard. He will do best in a quiet, structured home experienced with shy or feral dogs.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Most Terrier/Hound mixes like Dawson appreciate a fenced yard or daily walks in addition to indoor time. They benefit from a place to safely explore and burn off energy, especially with gentle, gradual exposure to new environments.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Though many Terrier/Hound mixes can do well with kids, Dawson’s history and ongoing adjustment mean he’s better suited for an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy children who respect his boundaries.
