VIDEOS Mighty Max is a good boy: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bf2rgWilcJM Mighty Max and Flacco Meet: https://youtu.be/RawSncyojDc https://youtu.be/cxeROdkV3N0 Behavior Notes: Volunteer 5/2: I've taken Max out a few times now and he's come a long way. No problems getting the leash on or walking, and he has developed from being a little wary of affection to actively seeking it out. His previous owner said he loved to play tug, and while he's not up for that just yet he does love scritches and will come to sit on my lap. He's a very smart and curious guy, and is highly food motivated. He's been overcoming barriers one by one, I hope all his hard work will lead him to a loving home. Staff 5/1: Home should be prepared to work on muzzle training (muzzle up project- https://muzzleupproject.com/muzzle-training/) and counter conditioning work to help reduce FAS and aggression for grooming. Behavior meds are advised to aide in behavior modification Staff 4/23: this dog is being continued on behavior meds for FAS Staff 4/22: Kennel Presentation: At the back of his kennel, wide eyes, ears back, tail tucked. Did not eat the treats that were offered. Leash Skills: When I opened the kennel he started pacing back and forth, ears pinned back, wide eyes. Dodged the leash, would lower his head and retreat every time the leash touched him. After a few tries got him leashed and he came right out. Pulled mildly on leash, ears pinned back, tail tucked, tense body, eyes darting. Sociability: Asocial in the yard. Mainly spent his time pacing the fence with his head low, wide eyes, ears pinned back, tail tucked. Would not come over when called, did not eat any treats that I offered. When i attempted to touch his back and side with the back of my leash he head whipped and lip licked with a closed mouth, ears pinned back, wide eyes, tail tucked and skin crawled. Hung out a little longer in the yard, his tail untucked, remainder of body language remained the same. Attempted handling again with the back of my leash, he head whipped with mouth open, wide eyes, tail tucked, tense body, ears pinned back. Play: Showed some interested in a squeaky toy, chased it then lost interest. Dog Interaction: Met Flaco, tail low, ears rotating between forward and back. When Flaco tried to sniff he would move away. Return to Kennel: Raised the stopper of my leash in the yard, gave me a side eye and lip lick. Walking back with tail tightly tucked, pulling moderate, ears pinned back, wide eyes, tense body. Jumpy and flinching at loud sounds. When attempting to clip his leash, I slowly touched back of his neck with my leash first, he jumped up in the air, snapped at it, ears pinned back, wide eyes, tail tucked. Continued walking to his kennel, needed slight leash pressure to enter. Needed to use a hook to remove the leash. Color Level: Experienced Blue Recommendations and considerations: Staff 4/19: Was called to bring Mighty Max into the exam room. He was laying in the back of his kennel, ears back, closed mouth. I tossed in some treats which he sniffed but did not eat, there were other treats in his kennel as well that were untouched. I cracked the kennel open and he remained laying down. When I talked to him in a baby voice, he slowly got up and made his way to the front of the kennel. I tried to leash him and he snapped at the leash with ears back, low tail, tense body. I pulled the leash back and he moved to the back of the kennel. With some baby talk he made his way back to the front. I was able to slowly leash him by placing the leash next to him and slowly moving it over him. Once he was leashed he came right out with his ears back, low still tail, tense body. Walking to the exam room his head was low, tense body, low tail and pulled mildly. In the exam room he sniffed around with ears back, tense body, low still tail. When the back of my leash touched his back he turned around and snapped at it, then returned to sniffing around. He hung out in the exam room for a few minuets before it was time to go to surgery. When trying to sedate him, he would turn around, snap in the direction of where we tried to sedate him at and flail on the leash, his eyes were wide, tail low and unmoving, tense body, ears back. He started to urinate and defecate in the room. We decide to use a thick sheet to cover his head. He tolerated the sheet being placed over his head, when he felt the needle he would jump up in the air, snapping with a tense body, wide eyes, low still tail. After a two attempts we were able to do a combination of a sheet over the head and another handler holding him still to get him sedated. Staff 4/18: TTA due to snapping each time you tried to touch him, starting on meds ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
