Her playful nature and need for companionship make her a great fit for a home with another dog or someone home often.
About Ponyo
Ponyo is a 4-year-old, 6-pound Yorkie mix with a spirited personality and a playful streak. She enjoys fetch and tug of war, as well as cuddling on her person’s lap or playing with toys. Ponyo gets along well with dogs and is friendly with kids over 12. She prefers company when she’s in the yard and needs a secure, fenced area or someone to take her on short, leashed walks. Housebreaking is still a work in progress—she uses pee pads and is crate trained, but she’ll need continued consistency and patience. Loud noises can make her nervous, so a calm, stable environment will help her feel secure. Ponyo’s ideal home has someone present most of the time or another dog for companionship. She thrives with people who will take the time to help her adjust, provide structure, include her in daily life, and allow plenty of cuddle time on the furniture. The rescue prioritizes local applicants, as home checks and meet-and-greets with all people and animals in the household are required. She’s already spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. After adoption, Ponyo needs about two weeks to settle in quietly with her household before meeting new people. Give them the home they have been waiting for. Apply today.

Questions about Ponyo
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Ponyo, as a Yorkshire Terrier/Chihuahua mix, does best in homes where she gets plenty of human company and consistency. She’s well-suited to apartments or houses, as long as there’s enough structure and regular companionship.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Ponyo is comfortable in a secure, fenced-in yard for play, but daily short walks on leash and interactive play with her people meet her needs well. A large yard isn’t strictly necessary, especially if she gets regular attention and exercise.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Yorkie mixes like Ponyo are generally fine with children, especially those over age 12 who understand how to interact gently with small dogs. She would do best in a home with respectful, older kids.
