About Allen

Allen is a sweet, snuggly chihuahua mix somewhere between 8 and 10 years old who looks forward to curling up in a lap for attention and affection. He’s pretty straightforward—happy with the simple life and a predictable routine, especially if he can have his own fenced yard, no matter the size, for potty breaks and finding a spot in the sun. Allen will let you know when he needs to go outside and usually manages well, but he benefits from pee pads at night just in case. He gets very anxious in the car and isn’t comfortable on leash, likely because of losing his vision, so he’s not a dog who needs or wants walks. Still, like a lot of older guys, Allen needs to slim down a bit to help his long-term health and is currently on Hill’s weight management diet. He shares space well with other dogs, though he’ll try to eat everyone’s food if you don’t keep an eye on him. It's not clear how he feels about cats. Allen mostly keeps to himself, entertains himself with bones or bully sticks, and would do okay with older, respectful kids who understand his need for boundaries. Loud noises startle him, and when he’s anxious, gentle scratches behind the ears help more than anything. He doesn’t like being manhandled but, with patience, could get used to baths or vet visits (though a sedative might go a long way). Allen's adoption fee is $150. He's microchipped, up to date on vaccines, recently neutered, and had a dental cleaning. Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started.

Questions about Allen

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Allen, as a small chihuahua mix, is best suited for a home with a secure, fenced yard and a low-stress, predictable environment. This helps him feel safe and gives him space for potty breaks without the need for walks.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Chihuahuas like Allen don't require much outdoor space, just enough for regular potty breaks and a bit of fresh air, so a small fenced yard works well.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Allen would do best in a home with older, respectful children who can understand his boundaries. Chihuahua mixes can be sensitive and prefer gentle handling.
