About Freya

What are you waiting for? Apply today! Little Freya joined the rescue with her siblings at just 3 months old. She was adopted into a Sheltie-experienced home, but her lively puppy energy was a bit too much, so she returned to the rescue still full of spunk. Now 13 months old and a petite 10 pounds, Freya remains as spirited as ever, always ready for adventure. She’s a sweet snuggler and delights in outings with her foster mom, sometimes even catching a ride in a doggy backpack! Freya is friendly with other dogs and would love a suitable playmate who can match her playful spirit. She also does well with cats. However, because she’s in her herding phase—nipping at heels—she isn’t a good fit for homes with small children. Freya is spayed, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations. Her ideal home has an experienced adopter who understands her energy needs, and it’s essential to have a fenced yard for her safety. She’s being fostered in Wilmington, DE, and is ready for a forever home that can offer plenty of activity and companionship. Home visits and a completed application are required prior to meeting Freya. She can’t wait to find the perfect match! Lets make it official, apply to adopt!

Questions about Freya

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

The Shetland Sheepdog, also known as the Sheltie, thrives in an active home with a family who can provide plenty of mental and physical stimulation. They enjoy spacious environments, such as homes with backyards, but can adapt to apartment living if exercised adequately.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Shetland Sheepdogs do best with regular access to a secure, fenced yard where they can run and play. While they can adapt to smaller spaces, daily walks and active playtime are essential to keep them happy and healthy.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Shelties are generally gentle and affectionate with children. However, due to their herding instincts, they might try to herd or gently nip at running children, so supervision and training are important, especially with younger kids.
