About Apple Jacks
Apple Jacks is a sensitive, medium-sized Australian Shepherd/Dachshund mix who has survived a tough start and needs a very specific home to thrive. He’s shy around people and still pretty wary—especially in new environments—but he finds comfort and confidence with other playful dogs. For Jacks, living with at least one happy, social canine companion isn’t just a bonus; it’s non-negotiable. He’ll need a securely fenced yard because he doesn’t have much experience on leash and gets extremely anxious when one is put on—he’s still learning it isn’t so scary, but for now outside freedom and bathroom breaks must be in a safe, fully enclosed area. Jacks isn’t a fit for homes with young kids or lots of chaos. He startles easily and noise or sudden movements can send him into flight mode, sometimes barreling through anything in his path to escape. He’s made big progress learning routines in foster care, picking up crate and toilet training quickly—hot dogs and rotisserie chicken are his top motivators and he’s gentle taking treats from humans, never pushy or grabby. Jacks gravitates to other dogs for cues and learns fastest by watching them. While not a snuggler yet, he’s gotten comfortable enough to relax and rest near both adult humans in his foster home. He’ll need patient adopters prepared to help him decompress at his own pace over several months. This is a special dog who won’t settle in overnight, but for the right family—one with a calm environment, a securely fenced yard, and at least one confident dog buddy—Apple Jacks can flourish. Your quiet support and a mountain of treats will go a long way with him. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
