About Wiley

Wiley is a medium-sized, black and white Border Collie with a rough, longer coat who is calm, sensitive, and cautious around new people. After a rough transition from his previous home, he spent time shut down and withdrawn but has since opened up in foster care and started to rediscover joy. Wiley watches the world carefully, preferring to observe before he engages, and is most at ease in a quiet, stable environment without children or lots of visitors. He gets along well with other dogs and does fine with cats, though he initially wanted to chase or play with them. Wiley would thrive with another canine friend and an owner willing to let him come out of his shell at his own pace. A secure, fenced yard or a dedicated commitment to leash walks is a must—he is still a flight risk and any negative training tools are out of the question. Social gatherings, public classes, or busy locations won't suit him. His leash manners are good and he enjoys walks and hiking as long as he isn’t forced into uncomfortable interactions. At home, Wiley's house manners are excellent; he is house trained, non-destructive, crate comfortable (indoors), and bonds by quietly following his trusted person around the home. Regular, gentle brushing will keep his coat in good shape and help you build trust together. Wiley is looking for a patient, compassionate adopter who’ll respect his boundaries and help him continue to grow confident on his own time. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
