About Nelson
Give them the home they have been waiting for. Apply today. Nelson is seeking a special family that is prepared to help him with ongoing training, which his friends at FOHA will help coordinate at the time of adoption. Since Nelson can be unpredictable, he needs an experienced, adult-only home with no children under 16. His playful personality shines through when it comes to fetch; with his striking different-colored eyes and love for a good ball game, Nelson is happiest chasing and retrieving his favorite toys. He enjoys water play and being sprayed with a hose, making outdoor time even more fun. Nelson has enjoyed doggie playgroups at FOHA and gets along well with select dogs, so he may enjoy having an appropriately matched canine companion at home. However, he's uncomfortable with large groups of people and would not thrive in dog parks or daycare environments. Walks with dedicated volunteers have helped Nelson build trust, but he is best suited to a home that can limit his exposure to strangers and loud or busy environments. His intelligence is off the charts and he would love an active family that channels his sharp mind and energy. This medium-sized Border Collie would benefit greatly from a fenced backyard where he can run and play safely—apartments and condos are not recommended for him. Nelson is looking forward to meeting a patient adopter who will put his potential and love of fetch to good use. Fun fact: since Nelson was born on March 13, he’s a Pisces—a sign known for loyalty and sensitivity. Click apply and let the tail-wagging begin!

Questions about Nelson

Border Collies require a significant amount of outdoor space to burn off their high energy. A large, fenced yard or access to open, safe areas is ideal for this breed.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Generally, Border Collies can be suitable for homes with older, respectful children, but their herding instincts can sometimes make them less ideal for families with very young kids.
