About Trixie
Dog Name: Trixie Age: 10 Weight: 9 Lbs Gender: Female Breed: Chihuahua Good with dogs? Yes! Trixie has lived in multiple foster homes with dogs of all sizes. She would do best with gentle dogs who respect her tiny size—especially since she loves to burrow under blankets (so no accidental squishes!). Good with cats? Yes, she has previously lived peacefully with a cat. Good with kids? Yes, she does well with respectful kids who understand her small size and gentle nature. Rescue Story: Trixie was a cherished companion whose life changed when her owner sadly passed away. She ended up at the Roswell shelter before being rescued by Friends of Roswell. After spending a few months in a loving New Mexico foster home, she made her way to Washington to find her forever family. Despite all the transitions, Trixie has remained incredibly resilient—she truly just goes with the flow and brings joy wherever she lands. Personality: Trixie is the definition of sweet and easygoing. She may give a quick bark when someone new arrives, but within seconds she's rolling over for belly rubs and offering kisses. She's a mellow, loving little companion who is happiest snuggled up with her people—whether that's reading a book, watching TV, or just being close. She enjoys short bursts of exploring the yard but is mostly a cozy couch companion. She is a happy little girl, and her gentle, content nature makes her such an easy addition to a home. Health Notes: Trixie has a grade 5/6 heart murmur and grade 4/4 dental tartar. She has had an EKG performed, which confirmed that she is not a candidate for a dental cleaning due to her heart condition. The good news is that her heart condition is currently being well-managed with medication, and she is doing great on her current regimen. Because she cannot undergo a dental procedure, her dental care is being managed conservatively. She is currently on monthly antibiotics to help prevent infection related to her dental tartar. To support her adopter, NorthWest Wag Rescue (NWW) will reimburse both her heart medication and her monthly antibiotics for the first year of adoption. She also has a deformity in one of her front paws, which makes long walks unnecessary and a bit challenging—but she gets around just fine at her own pace. Leash Experience: Yes, she walks well on leash, though she only needs short, gentle outings. Potty Trained: Yes, Trixie understands going outside but doesn't yet signal consistently. She does best with regular potty breaks (about every 2 hours or after naps). She also uses potty pads reliably. With a consistent schedule, she can comfortably make it through the night. She tends to drink water after potty breaks (likely due to medication), so access to water and routine breaks is important. Crate/Containment: She does well in a playpen setup, especially when she has her favorite bed and blanket. This is used during meals, introductions, or when left home alone. Alone Time: Trixie stays in her playpen when home alone and has done well for up to about 4 hours. Sleeping Arrangements: She sleeps in bed with her humans—either in her cozy dog bed or tucked under a soft blanket right next to you (her favorite spot!). Adoption Details: Trixie is looking for a hospice adopter—someone with a big heart who can give her comfort, stability, and love in her golden years. Her adoption fee is $200, which helps cover a small portion of her medical care and ensures that her adopter is truly committed to giving her the life she deserves. www.northwestwagrescue.org Trixie is a sweet, happy senior girl ready to soak up all the love in a calm, caring home
