About Lala
📌 Important Information • All dogs are currently in foster care in Mexico 🇲🇽. They're listed in Oregon for adoption purposes as that's where our rescue is based. • Dogs fly to Portland (PDX) once adoption is approved, arriving within 2–4 weeks. ✈️ This reduces stress for them and ensures safe travel. 💛 About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative) Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico’s streets. Our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, and adoption into loving homes. Since 2019: 🐶 500+ dogs adopted • ✂️ 3,500+ dogs spayed/neutered 👉 Interested in adopting? PLEASE FILL OUT APPLICATION AT www.bapbr.org ⚠️ We’re unable to respond to requests that come through Petfinder ************************** 🐾 Meet LALA 🐾 • AGE: ~1.5 years old • WEIGHT: ~11 lbs • BREED(S): Terrier mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!) • GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, as long as they're taught to respect the dog’s belongings and boundaries. • HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training. Lala arrived with the same story as her sister—a home where she was a toy, not a treasure. This pint-sized girl with a tender heart was hurt by small hands that didn't know gentleness. By the time she reached Susana's foster home, she was so scared that her body had learned to make itself smaller, hoping invisibility would keep her safe. Every sound made her flinch. Every stranger seemed dangerous. But Susana was patient. She didn't push. She just showed up, day after day, and let Lala slowly realize that maybe not all people hurt you. The shift happened quietly. One day Lala was trembling in the corner; the next, she was following Susana from room to room. Then she was trying to climb into her lap. Then she was nuzzling against her neck, seeking the reassurance that she was wanted, that she could stay. "She's become such a little velcro dog," Susana says softly, watching Lala curl against her side. "So much more relaxed and trusting now." Lala will never be the boldest dog in the room, and that's okay. What she is is tender. She loves being with her person—whether that's snuggling on the couch, lying in patches of sunlight, or just existing nearby. She's gentle with other dogs and cats, wonderful with children, and her affection comes in quiet moments rather than loud demands. She doesn't ask for much: just patience, consistency, and someone who understands that trust, once broken, takes time to rebuild. Lala's greatest strength is her quiet courage. Every day she chooses to trust a little more, to lean in a little closer. She was hurt young and learned too quickly that the world wasn't safe. But in foster care, she's discovering a different truth: that kindness exists, that patience is real, and that sometimes the smallest hearts hold the biggest capacity to love. Could you be the home where she finishes healing? ************************* 📝 Ready to apply?
