About Ramon

📌 Important Information • All dogs are currently in foster care in Mexico 🇲🇽. They're listed in Oregon for adoption purposes as that's where our rescue is based. • Dogs fly to Portland (PDX) once adoption is approved, arriving within 2–4 weeks. ✈️ This reduces stress for them and ensures safe travel. 💛 About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative) Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico’s streets. Our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, and adoption into loving homes. Since 2019: 🐶 500+ dogs adopted • ✂️ 3,500+ dogs spayed/neutered 👉 Interested in adopting? PLEASE FILL OUT APPLICATION AT www.bapbr.org ⚠️ We’re unable to respond to requests that come through Petfinder ************************** 🐾 Meet RAMON 🐾 • AGE: ~2 years old • WEIGHT: ~42 lbs • BREED(S): Terrier mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!) • GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, as long as they're taught to respect the dog’s belongings and boundaries. • HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training. Ramon lived on the street with his buddy Goyo, the two of them figuring out survival together. But the neighbors didn't see two dogs getting by — they just saw a nuisance. When Ramon was struck with a pipe and left injured, and threats of poisoning the two dogs followed, it was clear someone needed to step in. He arrived to our foster care terrified. So terrified that even a phone being lifted nearby made him duck and hide — the reflex of an animal who had learned that human hands meant harm. "He'd flinch at anything," his foster Susana recalls. It took time and patience to convince him that not every raised arm was a threat. He's convinced now. Ramon approaches Susana with his tail going, lets himself be petted, has even learned to sit on command — small victories that mean everything given where he started. And he's turned out to be a remarkably clean, calm, and smart dog: he waits patiently in his kennel without ever making a mess, holding it until he can go outside like the quietly dignified dog he is. One look at Ramon's soulful chestnut-brown eyes and you can tell he's been through a lot. But what those eyes really tell you — if you look long enough — is that it didn't break him. His warmth and loving nature was always in there, just waiting for the right person to bring it out. Ramon deserves a real home — somewhere he can stop being caged and start being a family dog. He's obedient, smart, and has so much affection to give once he knows it's safe to give it. His leg has healed. Now the rest of him needs the chance to heal too. Will you be the person he learns to run toward? ************************* 📝 Ready to apply?
