Yes, as long as they're taught to respect the dog’s belongings and boundaries. • HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training. She was found in the street, in heat, surrounded by dogs much bigger than her. Exhausted, hungry, and frightened out of her mind. When Katie arrived in foster, she startled at every loud noise, every fast movement — and she couldn't go near a broom without shutting down completely, the kind of fear response that tells you exactly what her life had been like before. Susana took it slow. No pressure, no rush. And Katie, to her credit, met her halfway. "She's so much more relaxed now," Susana says. "She's learned to trust." She plays with the other dogs, naps in long comfortable stretches, and has discovered that she really, really loves cuddles — both giving them and receiving them. The broom still makes her nervous. That's okay. It's a small thing, and it's getting better. What's grown much faster is her capacity for affection: she'll curl up against you, offer her belly, cover your face in kisses if you let her. For a dog who came in so guarded, the warmth she gives now is something to see. Katie would thrive somewhere calm and gentle — no harsh voices, no sudden scares.
