Thank you for taking the time to read the profile for a little old gal like me. It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Gertie and I am estimated to be about 8 years young. Life was great for me until it wasn't. My previous owner loved and cared for me until their needs required them to seek care outside of our home. My care was entrusted to a family member whose irresponsible choices left me caught in the middle of a messy eviction. I did not recognize my once loving home. The walls that once held memories of love and laughter were now torn down and riddled with holes. The rooms where my owner held me and laughed were now soiled with dirt, debris, and destroyed furniture. Copper piping was stolen and countertops were smashed. The door slammed one final time and before I knew it, I was left alone in the winter without heat or electricity. Piles of feces covered the once carpeted floors as I lay shaking in the house waiting for someone to discover me. Finally, my saviors came but I hardly knew their purpose. I was so frightened that I cowered behind an old pool table and tried to jump through a closed window just to escape. It took me awhile to learn to trust the staff but by golly if they didn't turn out to be my very best friends! I can be a bit shy in new situations but am a very affectionate, gentle girl once I get to know you. I love to give hugs, stick my tongue out, and do my famous "cutie patooty booty scooty" with my friends. I would do wonderful in a home with another easygoing dog or cat and would even make a loving companion to older dog savvy children. Please consider giving a golden girl like me the easy retirement she deserves. Ask about adopting me!
