About Onyx
Onyx is a 16-month-old black Lab mix with boundless energy and a goofy streak a mile wide. Weighing in around 50 pounds, he’s proven his love for action: after just one try at dock diving, he was charging off the dock with pure glee, diving into the water as if he’d done it for years. Onyx is all about play, and toys—especially balls and tug ropes—are his love language. He’s laser-focused during games and brings an infectious, joyful spirit to every round of fetch or keep-away. If you’re open to trying dog sports or just want an adventure buddy, he fits the bill. Despite a tough start, being born and kept in a basement until he was rescued at 4 months, Onyx is unfailingly friendly with people and dogs. He gets along well with other dogs and tends to approach life with a sweet, submissive attitude—he’ll even retreat if a little puppy yells at him. That eagerness sometimes spills over into excitement on walks, so he’s still working on greeting new friends calmly. Leash training and positive exposure are ongoing, but there isn’t an ounce of aggression in him. He’s crate trained and reliable loose in the house. Onyx is searching for a family within 60 miles of Silver Spring, MD, who can match his active lifestyle and let him make up for lost time with plenty of play, love, and belly rubs.
