About Keiko
**ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS-AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AFTER 3/17 Keiko is a 2-year-old Husky/Malinois mix weighing about 55 pounds who came to the shelter after repeatedly finding ways to go on adventures beyond his previous yard. With two highly intelligent and active breeds in his background, Keiko is a dog who thrives when both his body and mind are kept engaged. Keiko is a bright and energetic dog who will do best with a family that has knowledge and experience with active working breeds. Huskies and Belgian Malinois are both known for their intelligence, curiosity, and drive, and Keiko will benefit from a home prepared to provide structure, consistent training, mental enrichment, and plenty of physical activity. Homes familiar with the needs of working dogs will be best suited to help Keiko succeed and enjoy all the wonderful qualities these breeds are known for. Keiko has done well with most of the dogs he has met, has spent time successfully in the cat room, and is reported to do well with children. He is also reported to be housebroken, though adopters should expect a short adjustment period as he settles into new routines. Keiko does have a history of chasing livestock and will need a secure environment that keeps both him and neighboring animals safe. Keiko has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, given a dewormer, is current on vaccinations, and receives monthly preventatives.
