At around 2 years old and 19 pounds, this sweet Maltese mix has a soft presence and a loving nature that quietly wins hearts. He may have had a confusing start before arriving at the shelter, but in foster care he is showing everyone what a truly special little dog he is. Daily Routine Shish-Kebab enjoys a calm, predictable routine and settles beautifully into home life. His day begins around 6:30 AM, when he goes outside to the yard to take care of his morning business. After that, he relaxes nearby while his foster works, usually stretching out on the carpet or curling up in a dog bed close by. Breakfast is served between 7:00 and 8:00 AM, and dinner comes between 6:00 and 7:00 PM. During the day he enjoys two leisurely walks, typically about 20 minutes around 10:00 AM and again around 4:30 PM. He walks calmly and happily alongside his people. In the evenings, Shish-Kebab winds down with his family and then heads to bed—literally. He currently sleeps in bed with his foster family and their dog, where he settles in quietly for the night. Personality: A Gentle, Loving Companion When Shish-Kebab first arrived, he was understandably very anxious and unsure of his surroundings. He stayed extremely close to his foster, following her from room to room to make sure he hadn’t been left behind. If he briefly lost sight of her, he would whine and go searching. In just a few days, however, his confidence began to grow. He is now much more relaxed and comfortable, often lounging nearby rather than needing to be directly next to his person. His personality is best described as quiet, mellow, and deeply affectionate. Shish-Kebab is wonderfully tolerant and gentle. His foster describes him as almost like a little stuffed animal—he calmly allows brushing, harnessing, cuddling, hugs, and kisses without fuss. He doesn’t protest handling and seems to accept affection with a soft, patient sweetness. He has also made progress building trust with his foster’s husband. At first he startled easily around him, but now he runs up with a wagging tail to greet him when he comes home, happily accepting kisses and hugs. A True Lap Dog Shish-Kebab thrives on closeness with his people. He isn’t demanding or hyper, but he loves being near his humans, whether that means resting on the carpet beside them, curling up on the couch, or settling into a cozy lap. If you’re looking for a quiet companion who enjoys simply sharing space and companionship, Shish-Kebab fits that role beautifully. Life With Other Dogs Shish-Kebab currently lives with an 11-month-old, energetic 20-pound dog named Dori. While Dori would love constant playtime, Shish-Kebab prefers a calmer pace. He communicates his boundaries politely and appreciates when other dogs respect them. That said, his social confidence is growing.Recently he even initiated a short playful chase with Dori in the backyard. He would be great as an only dog, where he can soak up all the attention, but he can also live with another respectful dog who doesn’t expect nonstop play. Activity Level Shish-Kebab is laid-back and easygoing. He enjoys walks and occasional bursts of activity, but overall he prefers a calm lifestyle. His ideal day includes a couple of short walks, some time outside, and plenty of relaxation near his people. He is the perfect match for someone seeking a low-drama, affectionate companion rather than a high-energy athlete. Excellent Manners Shish-Kebab is an exceptionally polite little dog. Leash walking: Walks beautifully on leash with no pulling. Dog reactions: Does not bark at or chase dogs, cats, or squirrels. House training: Fully housetrained and immediately understood to potty outside. Chewing/Digging: None. Barking: Rarely makes a sound—his foster has only heard him whine briefly when he couldn’t find her. He is gentle with treats as well, delicately taking a few kibbles at a time and pausing to look up at his person with soft, trusting eyes. What Makes Shish-Kebab Special Shish-Kebab’s sweetness is impossible to miss. His foster describes how he sometimes “smiles” when he’s happy, scrunching his face so much that his eyes nearly disappear. It’s a joyful expression that perfectly captures his loving spirit. He is the kind of dog who doesn’t demand attention but quietly fills a home with warmth, calm, and companionship. For someone hoping to welcome a devoted little shadow and lap companion into their life, Shish-Kebab may be the perfect match.
