She’s an 8 year old, 15 lb. piebald, long-haired Dachshund. This sweet girl gets along well with everyone and other dogs. She will alert bark. She also barks when excited or when you arrive home. If other dogs are barking, she's happy to join in. She does respond to physical reassurance. Sky is your silent shadow most of the time and just wants to sit on your lap. She has a weaker front likely due to IVDD, so it’s important you’re gentle when moving her. Hardwood floors are especially challenging to navigate. With medication and current therapies she is doing great and showing improvement. A calm owner and relaxed environment would be ideal, with someone who spends time at home often. Sky has an abundance of love to share. She is not high energy, and is more than content with time outside or short walks. Like all Dachshunds, Sky enjoys playing and warming their little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around their neighborhood, Sky needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, Oregon Dachshund Rescue Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes (or Duplexes) with secure fenced yards. OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print): Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We generally do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together. We prefer non-smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues. All our dogs are vetted and vaccinated. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet/dental bills or need extensive behavioral training. Can you give Sky a happy, carefree life again?
