About Callie
FENCE REQUIRED Callie is a 2.5-year-old Great Dane girl with the energy of a toddler who just discovered espresso and the personality of that annoying little sister who constantly pesters you… but only because she loves you so much. If you’re sitting down, she wants to sit with you. If you’re walking somewhere, she wants to come too. If you’re trying to ignore her… well… that’s just unacceptable. Callie came into rescue after being abandoned at an empty house in Louisiana with another male Dane and their lone surviving newborn puppy. When animal control removed them and contacted Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue, all three dogs were extremely malnourished and clearly hadn’t been cared for in a long time. But if Callie remembers those hard days, she certainly isn’t dwelling on them. Since coming into rescue, she has gained her weight back and revealed herself to be a joyful, affectionate, slightly ridiculous ray of sunshine who is determined to squeeze every drop of fun out of life from here on out. Callie is currently being boarded because the rescue simply doesn’t have enough foster homes for the number of dogs coming in right now. Despite that, her personality shines through every day. She greets everyone like they are the most exciting person she has ever met in her entire life. Every. Single. Time. Callie absolutely LOVES other dogs and would do wonderfully with a canine buddy. Her play style can start off a little enthusiastic (read: she arrives like a wrecking ball of friendship), but she responds well to correction. She just needs a dog sibling who can either match her energy or occasionally remind her that indoor wrestling tournaments are optional. When she doesn’t have a playmate available, Callie has figured out how to entertain herself. She’ll grab a toy and literally throw it into the air so she can play fetch… with herself. We’re not saying she’s a genius, but we’re also not not saying that. If she has too much energy and no outlet, she may try to dig a little landscaping project in the yard. She's also been known to make dog beds explode in her kennel, she's what we refer to as an overly enthusiastic decorator. Callie loves dogs, but she loves people just as much. She is a champion hugger, an expert leaner, and genuinely believes that personal space is just a silly human concept. She wants affection, attention, and probably your entire couch. Despite everything she went through early in life, Callie doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She’s just a happy, playful Dane who wants friends, toys, belly rubs, and a family who will laugh at her endless shenanigans. If you’re looking for a giant, goofy best friend who will make you laugh daily, keep your other dog entertained, and remind you that life is meant to be fun… then Callie is ready to move in. Callie is spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped. She is heartworm positive but that doesn't slow her down one bit! She is being treated for heartworms using the slow-kill method with Doxycycline and ProHeart 12. Her adoption fee is $350. All approved adopters are required to pick up the dog from his or her foster.
