Smurf is ready for his forever home. Smurf is our tiny long-term foster with a big personality. When he first came to rescue he had been dyed blue, was severely matted, covered in feces, and shaking in fear. He weighed only 3.5 lbs. With love and care in foster he’s grown stronger and is now around 6 lbs. Smurf is very shy at first, but once he warms up he becomes incredibly sweet. After about a month he began letting his foster pick him up and discovered he loves cuddling and attention. Besides playing with other small dogs, his favorite thing is being close to his person. He still has occasional setbacks like submissive peeing or running away when scared, so building trust with Smurf takes patience and kindness. But watching his confidence grow is incredibly rewarding. Smurf loves playing and wrestling with small dogs his size, and a friendly dog companion would likely help him continue to gain confidence. He’s still learning about bigger dogs and has done well with cats. He enjoys prancing around the house, relaxing on the couch, and sleeping safely in his crate (his favorite safe space). He mostly uses puppy pads but has recently started going out in the yard sometimes as he gains confidence. Smurf also recently had a dental to remove 11 retained baby teeth and is feeling much better. Smurf has been in foster almost 2 months.
