About Cashmere
Meet Cashmere (Cash for short)- read what her foster mom has to say about her. Cash is an 7 yo Maltese weighing 12 lbs that we rescued from a commercial breeding kennel. I am still getting to know her and my other foster Coconut who came in with Cash. She is learning what it means to live in a home - steps, new noises, doors, touch, TV's, leashes etc. She also had to have her last 2 teeth teeth taken out as the rest had fallen out from decay at the mill and was also spayed so it was a lot for a dog who spent 7 years in a cage to adjust to. She also had double ear infections to treat. These poor dogs in these kennels are used as mill mama's and it always takes time for them to trust people and their new surroundings. She is learning to go potty outside, walk around the neighborhood on a leash, enjoying good soft food and feeling so much healthier with those last 2 teeth gone and ears healed. She and Coconut are scared but at the same time starting to love being petted. I have learned from many mill fosters to keep the leash on and keep them with me and regularly pick up and love and hold them so they get used to it. She loves liverwurst, chicken and beef hot dogs so she will come and take from my hand. I am seeing strides made every day. She is good in the crate but I do take her out every 3 hours to potty train. We are working on a dry crate through the night but have not gotten there yet. She will need a fenced yard and another calm dog in the home to show her the ropes and build her confidence. If you are willing to understand it will take time, lots of patience, moving slowly, regular routines, it will be worth it. Mill dogs make the best pets ever who will bond with you forever. Her fur is growing in as she came in shaved. The brown is from licking with a mouth full of bacteria from bad teeth and with good food and regular grooming, her looks will blossom. Cashmere is now spayed, up to date with vaccines and microchipped. She tested negative for heartworm and has been started on monthly heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $250.00.
