About Hartley
Meet Hartley: Your New Loyal Shadow Hartley is a handsome three-year-old black and rust Doberman with soft natural ears and a docked tail. If you are looking for a true "Velcro dog," look no further; Hartley is happiest when he is right by your side, whether you are relaxing on the couch or heading out for a new adventure. He is an absolute gentleman inside the home, showing great respect for furniture and household boundaries. He is also a phenomenal passenger in the car, always eager to hop in and see where the day takes you. While Hartley is a quiet and well-behaved companion indoors, he does have a quirky side when it comes to the great outdoors. He enjoys chasing balls in the backyard, though he plays by his own rules—he’ll fetch a few times before deciding the ball is better suited for a solo chew session or leaving it on the far side of the yard for you to find. While he appreciates his outdoor time, he is definitely a fair-weather fan. He prefers the warmth of the house during the winter, but as the temperature rises, he will happily spend his afternoons lounging in a sun-drenched, securely fenced yard. On walks, Hartley is a curious explorer who is still mastering his leash etiquette. He is a strong puller on a standard collar, but he transforms into a polite walker when wearing a harness. He is easily captivated by the world around him—from other dogs and people to the sound of wind chimes—and will sometimes "freeze and stare" in fascination, requiring a gentle nudge to get back on track. Because he is highly food-motivated, he is a fast learner when treats are involved, though his adopters should keep an eye on the kitchen counters since he’s always on the lookout for an unattended snack. Hartley is a social soul who gets along well with other dogs and has successfully lived with a cat in the past. While he has a natural prey drive for rabbits, he is generally non-reactive and polite when meeting new friends in stores or on the street. His biggest hurdle is separation anxiety; he truly dislikes being left alone and thrives on companionship. Because of this, Hartley would do best in a multi-person household or a home with another dog to keep him company. With a patient family and a secure physical fence, Hartley will be the most devoted and loving addition to your home.
