About Queso
Queso is a 4-month old 9-pound female Chihuahua Terrier from Mexico and just a brilliantly intelligent, sweet, and gentle-mannered pup. A true New Yorker in her heart, with absolutely no reaction or fright to anything one might encounter in our big city. Sirens, traffic, loud noises, and apartment buzzers do not make her flinch. She is quiet and gentle, and ready for love and snuggles. She has adjusted exceedingly well after her transport to the East Coast and is loving street life in the busy city. She loves meeting people, especially children, and is also great with other dogs when approached by leash. She will thrive in a home that will take her on walks and let her sniff and explore. Somehow, Queso knows how to “sit” and also “walk pretty” on her leash. When she isn't sure where to go next, she quietly just sits, delighting people as they walk by her. She hasn't learned new commands besides "sit" and "pee-pees" when she is outside, but she is eager to learn - - and is so very bright! During her time with her foster family, she seems to be able to hold off from peeing overnight but she still uses pee-pads. We take her out for frequent small walks throughout the day. Pee-pads have been a great resource while she gets her training wheels on for outside potty breaks. Queso really is calm and pretty great on a leash. We are working on leash skills - especially to walk alongside her walker and not pull. But since nothing phases her or scares her (and because she is so tiny!), it has been easy to gently pull her back so that she walks more slowly. As long as she gets to say hello to as many passers-by as she can, she is happy. Queso's forever family will need to continue working with crate-training to reinforce and advance the progress she's been making. She can sleep in a crate from 9pm to around 4 or 5am, but she's also been sleeping in a separate crate from her sister (a darling even smaller puppy named Chips, who is soon up for adoption, too). Queso has also done well in her crate during the day and has shown very little separation anxiety. She hasn't been in a home where she is the only pup, and undivided love and attention will be truly excellent for her. She cuddles, she rarely rarely barks, and she will let you know what she wants with a gentle whine. She also has a little purple dragon toy that she simply must take around with her. Occassionaly, the dragon sits atop a Roomba and she just watches intently. She loves a great chew toy, too. In short, a dream puppy who is going to grow up to be a dream dog. Could YOU be her forever home? She is ready! Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Tested for vector-borne illnesses. Current on flea, tick, and heart worm prevention. To apply to adopt Queso, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for a foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Questions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org
